Hong Kong Trade Mark Registration Cost: Official Fees, Classes and Renewal
The official fee for a Hong Kong trade mark is HK$2,000 for the first class and HK$1,000 for each additional class, renewable every 10 years. A worked example, the address-for-service rule and the search to do first.
Short answer: The Intellectual Property Department charges HK$2,000 for the first class and HK$1,000 for each additional class. Registration lasts 10 years and renewal costs HK$2,670 for the first class and HK$1,340 for each additional class. A Hong Kong trade mark only protects you in Hong Kong.
Official fees
| Item | Fee (HK$) |
|---|---|
| Application (T2), first class | 2,000 |
| Each additional class | 1,000 |
| Renewal, first class (every 10 years) | 2,670 |
| Renewal, each additional class | 1,340 |
Example: one mark in 3 classes costs HK$2,000 + HK$1,000 × 2 = HK$4,000 in official fees.
Three things to do first
- Search for identical or similar marks to reduce the risk of objection.
- Choose classes under the Nice Classification; more classes cost more but protect more.
- Prepare a Hong Kong address for service: the IPD does not accept PO boxes or addresses used only for forwarding mail.
How we can help
Our trade mark service starts at HK$3,980 including the HK$2,000 official fee for one class: search, class advice, filing and follow-up. Oppositions and infringement matters need a lawyer.
